Why does my TV keep losing its Wi-Fi connection?
The short answer
Your TV keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi because the signal is unstable, the network is overloaded, or the TV/router settings need a quick reset.
Why this happens
Common causes include:
- Weak signal where your TV sits (far room, thick walls, metal furniture)
- Crowded Wi-Fi from many devices streaming at once
- Router auto-switching channels too often
- Old TV software with network bugs
- Power-saving settings that put Wi-Fi to sleep
- IP conflicts when too many devices reconnect after a reboot
How to fix it
Try these in order:
- Restart both devices
Unplug your TV and router for 30 seconds, then power back on. - Move the router or TV
Even a few feet can improve signal quality. - Use 5 GHz if close, 2.4 GHz if far
5 GHz is faster but shorter range; 2.4 GHz reaches farther. - Forget and reconnect Wi-Fi on the TV
Re-enter the password to clear bad saved settings. - Update TV firmware
Check Settings > Support > Software Update. - Reduce network load
Pause downloads or streams on other devices. - Try Ethernet
A cable is the most stable fix for buffering and dropouts.
When should you worry?
You should look deeper if:
- Only this TV drops connection while other devices are stable
- It disconnects multiple times per hour after resets
- The TV cannot see any networks at all
At that point, test with a phone hotspot. If hotspot works, your router setup is likely the issue. If not, the TV’s Wi-Fi hardware may need service.
