Why does my phone battery drain so fast?

The short answer
Your battery drains fast because something is using more power than it should — usually screen brightness, background apps, or a weak signal.
Most common causes
1. Screen brightness too high
Your screen is the single biggest battery drain. Auto-brightness or manually keeping it low helps a lot.
2. Background apps
Apps running in the background (social media, email, navigation) constantly use battery. Check your battery settings to see which apps are the worst offenders.
3. Weak cellular signal
When your phone struggles to find a signal, it boosts its radio power. This drains battery fast. If you’re in a low-signal area, switching to airplane mode (with Wi-Fi on) can help.
4. Location services
GPS is power-hungry. Many apps track your location even when you’re not using them. Review which apps have location access and set them to “While Using” or “Never.”
5. Old or degraded battery
Batteries lose capacity over time. After 2–3 years, your battery might only hold 80% of its original charge. Check your battery health in Settings.
Quick fixes
- Lower screen brightness or use auto-brightness
- Close apps you’re not using
- Turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when not needed
- Disable background app refresh for non-essential apps
- Enable low power / battery saver mode
- Update your phone — software updates often fix battery bugs
