What does an event notification mean from Wyze Cam?

An event notification from Wyze Cam means your camera detected something — usually motion, a person, a sound, or another trigger — and is alerting you so you can check the clip.

What counts as an “event”?

Wyze Cam sends notifications for different types of events depending on your camera model and settings:

  • Motion detected — something moved in the camera’s field of view
  • Person detected — the camera recognized a human shape (requires Cam Plus or Cam Plus Lite)
  • Sound detected — the camera picked up a loud noise like a crash, voice, or alarm
  • Package detected — a package appeared in the detection zone (Cam Plus feature)
  • Pet detected — the camera spotted an animal (Cam Plus feature)
  • Smoke or CO alarm detected — the camera heard an alarm tone

Each event comes with a short video clip you can review in the Wyze app.

When should you worry?

Most event notifications are routine — a passing car, a pet walking by, or a shadow shifting. But pay attention if:

  • You get a person detection alert when nobody should be home — check the clip immediately
  • You hear unfamiliar sounds in a sound detection alert
  • Notifications stop unexpectedly — your camera may be offline, unplugged, or blocked
  • You see repeated alerts from the same spot — a branch or flag may be causing false triggers

How to manage event notifications

If you get too many (or too few) alerts, adjust your settings:

  1. Open the Wyze app and tap your camera
  2. Tap the gear icon to open settings
  3. Go to Event Recording to choose what triggers events
  4. Go to Notifications to control which alerts reach your phone

Tips to reduce false alerts:

  • Set a detection zone so the camera only watches a specific area
  • Lower the motion sensitivity if trees, shadows, or cars keep triggering alerts
  • Turn on person detection only if you only care about people, not all motion
  • Use notification scheduling to mute alerts during busy times

What about the 5-minute cooldown?

Free Wyze Cam users have a 5-minute cooldown between event recordings. This means your camera will not record or notify you about new events for 5 minutes after the last one. Upgrading to Cam Plus removes this limit and gives you continuous event recording.
