What does Google Play Store Error RH-01 mean?
The short answer
Error RH-01 means the Google Play Store can’t retrieve information from Google’s servers, usually because of a problem with your Google account data or corrupted cache on your device.
Why does it happen?
This error typically appears when you try to open the Play Store, search for apps, or download something. The message usually reads “Error while retrieving information from server [RH-01].” Common causes include:
- Corrupted Play Store cache or data — temporary files on your device have become outdated or broken
- Google account sync issues — your account credentials on the device are out of sync with Google’s servers
- Missing or outdated Google Services Framework — a key background service that the Play Store depends on isn’t working properly
- Recent account or device changes — a password change, factory reset, or system update disrupted the connection
How to fix it
Try these steps in order, checking after each one:
- Clear the Play Store cache and data — go to Settings, then Apps, find Google Play Store, and tap “Clear Cache” followed by “Clear Data”
- Clear Google Services Framework cache — in the same Apps list, find Google Services Framework and tap “Clear Cache” (this is the step that fixes it for most people)
- Remove and re-add your Google account — go to Settings, then Accounts, remove your Google account, restart your phone, and sign back in
- Check your date and time settings — go to Settings, then Date & Time, and make sure “Automatic date and time” is turned on (incorrect time can block server communication)
- Uninstall Play Store updates — in the Play Store app info screen, tap “Uninstall Updates” to reset it to the factory version, then let it update itself
When should you worry?
This error is almost always fixable on your end. But if none of the steps above work:
- Your Google account may have a server-side issue — try signing in on a computer to check for security alerts or verification prompts
- Your device may be unsupported — some older or modified Android devices lose Play Store access after Google updates its requirements
- A VPN or custom DNS may be interfering — try disabling them temporarily and reopening the Play Store
