What is a server boost?
Server boosting is a way for members to support a Discord server by contributing upgrades. When someone boosts a server, the whole community benefits from perks like:
- Better audio quality in voice channels
- More emoji slots for custom emojis
- Higher upload limits for sharing files
- Custom server banner and invite background
- More streaming quality options for Go Live
Servers unlock these perks in tiers. The more boosts a server gets, the higher its tier and the more features everyone can use.
Why are you seeing this notification?
You will see a server boost notification when:
- Someone just boosted a server you’re in. Discord announces it in the server’s system messages channel so everyone knows.
- A server reached a new boost tier. When enough people boost, the server levels up and Discord notifies members about the new perks.
- Discord is promoting Nitro. Occasionally, Discord sends notifications encouraging you to boost servers you’re active in.
Do you need to do anything?
No. Server boost notifications are purely informational. You are not being charged, and you do not need to boost anything yourself. Someone else spent their money to improve the server for everyone, and Discord is just letting you know.
