How to pair a Bluetooth speaker
The short answer
Turn on your speaker, put it in pairing mode, then select it from your device’s Bluetooth settings.
Step-by-step pairing
The process is nearly the same regardless of what device you are connecting to:
- Turn on your Bluetooth speaker and make sure it is charged or plugged in.
- Put the speaker in pairing mode — most speakers enter pairing mode automatically the first time you turn them on. If not, press and hold the Bluetooth button until you see a flashing light or hear a sound.
- Open Bluetooth settings on your device:
- iPhone/iPad — Settings > Bluetooth
- Android — Settings > Connected devices > Pair new device
- Windows — Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device
- Mac — System Settings > Bluetooth
- Select your speaker from the list of available devices.
- Wait for confirmation — you will hear a tone or see a “Connected” status.
If it does not show up
- Make sure the speaker is actually in pairing mode — the Bluetooth light should be flashing, not solid.
- Move closer — keep the speaker within a few feet of your device during pairing.
- Turn off other nearby Bluetooth devices — your speaker may have auto-connected to a different device like a family member’s phone.
- Restart both devices — turn the speaker off and on, and toggle Bluetooth off and on on your phone or computer.
- Forget and re-pair — if you have connected before, go to Bluetooth settings, find the speaker, select “Forget” or “Remove,” then pair again from scratch.
Tips for a smooth connection
- Most speakers remember the last device they connected to and will auto-connect when both are turned on.
- Only one device at a time unless your speaker supports multipoint, which lets it connect to two devices simultaneously.
- Stay within range — Bluetooth typically works up to about 30 feet, but walls and obstacles shorten that distance.
