How to get a refund from the App Store
The short answer
Go to Apple’s “Report a Problem” page, choose the purchase, pick a refund reason, submit, and wait for Apple’s decision email.
How to request a refund
1) Open Apple’s refund page
- Go to reportaproblem.apple.com
- Sign in with the same Apple ID used for the purchase
2) Pick the right item
- Tap “I’d like to” and select Request a refund
- Choose the app, subscription, in-app purchase, movie, or book
- If you were charged twice, pick the item that shows the extra charge
3) Choose your reason carefully
- Common options include:
- Didn’t mean to buy this
- Item fails to work as expected
- Child made purchase without permission
- Be honest and specific; short, clear details help
4) Submit and wait
- Apple usually emails a decision in 24–48 hours (sometimes longer)
- If approved, money returns to your original payment method
- Bank/card refunds can take several business days
If your refund is denied
- Submit one more request with clearer details
- Ask for help through Apple Support
- Cancel unwanted subscriptions to avoid future charges:
- Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions
When should you worry?
- You can’t find the charge on the refund page
- The charge appears on your bank but not in purchase history
- You see unknown purchases (possible account compromise)
If any of these happen, contact Apple Support quickly and change your Apple ID password.
