How to change your name on Zoom

The short answer

You can change your Zoom name in your profile settings on the Zoom website, or rename yourself during a meeting from the Participants panel.

How to change your name permanently

This updates your name for all future meetings:

  • Go to zoom.us and sign in to your account
  • Click your profile icon in the top right, then click Profile
  • Next to your name, click Edit
  • Type your new first name and last name, then click Save

Your new name will now show up in every meeting you join.

How to change your name before joining a meeting

If you just need a different name for one meeting:

  • Click the meeting link or open Zoom and click Join
  • On the “Join Meeting” screen, you’ll see a name field
  • Delete your current name and type the one you want to use
  • Click Join to enter the meeting with your new name

This only applies to that one meeting. Your profile name stays the same.

How to change your name during a meeting

Already in a call and need to fix your name? Here’s how:

  • Click Participants at the bottom of the Zoom window
  • Find your name in the list and hover over it
  • Click More (or the three dots), then click Rename
  • Type your new name and click OK

This change only lasts for the current meeting.

How to change your name in the Zoom app

To update your name from the desktop or mobile app:

  • Open Zoom and click your profile icon in the top right
  • Select My Profile (this opens the Zoom website)
  • Click Edit next to your name and make your changes
  • Click Save

On mobile, tap Settings, then tap your name at the top to edit your display name directly.

Things to keep in mind

  • Meeting hosts can disable renaming, so you might not always see the Rename option during a call
  • Work or school accounts may lock your name to match your organization’s directory — contact your IT admin if you can’t change it
  • Name changes in your profile can take a few minutes to show up everywhere
