How to change your Zoom background

The short answer

Open Zoom settings, go to Background & Effects, and pick or upload an image before or during a meeting.

Change your Zoom background on desktop

• Open Zoom desktop app
• Click your profile picture (top right)
• Click Settings
• Select Background & Effects
• Choose a built-in background or click + to upload your own image

During a meeting

• Click the arrow next to Start/Stop Video
• Click Choose virtual background
• Pick or upload a background

Change your Zoom background on phone

• Join a Zoom meeting in the mobile app
• Tap More (three dots)
• Tap Background and Effects or Virtual Background
• Select a background or upload one

Make it look better

• Use a clean, well-lit room
• Sit with light in front of you, not behind
• Wear clothes that don’t match your background
• If possible, use a plain wall behind you

How to fix it

• Option missing? Update Zoom to the latest version
• Background looks glitchy? Improve lighting and avoid busy real backgrounds
• Can’t upload images? Check account or company admin settings
• Slow computer? Close heavy apps, then rejoin the meeting
