How to cancel YouTube Premium
The short answer
Go to your YouTube settings, tap “Purchases and memberships,” select “YouTube Premium,” and hit “Deactivate” to cancel your subscription.
How to cancel on a computer
- Go to youtube.com/premium
- Click Manage membership
- Click Deactivate (or Cancel membership)
- Follow the prompts and confirm
YouTube may offer you a discounted rate or a pause option before finalizing. You can skip these if you want to fully cancel.
How to cancel on Android
- Open the YouTube app
- Tap your profile picture in the top right
- Tap Purchases and memberships
- Select YouTube Premium
- Tap Deactivate and confirm
How to cancel on iPhone or iPad
If you subscribed through Apple, you need to cancel through your Apple ID settings instead:
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Tap your name at the top
- Tap Subscriptions
- Find YouTube Premium and tap it
- Tap Cancel Subscription
If you signed up directly through YouTube (not Apple), use the same steps as the computer method in a browser.
What happens after you cancel
- You keep access until the end of your current billing period
- Ads come back on all YouTube videos once your membership expires
- Downloads disappear since offline videos require an active subscription
- YouTube Music Premium goes away too if it was bundled with your plan
Things to keep in mind
- Pausing is an option. YouTube lets you pause your membership for up to six months instead of canceling outright.
- Family plans. If you are on a family plan, only the family manager can cancel. Other members cannot do it themselves.
- Free trials. If you cancel during a free trial, you lose access immediately rather than at the end of the period.
- Re-subscribing. You can sign back up anytime, but you may not get the same introductory price you had before.
